Average motorbike compensation injury amount

Given that road accidents are so common, I can normally tell you that, statistically, the average minor whiplash claim settles for around £2,500. The bracket for minor whiplash, which is where most people will be, is between £1,000 – £5,000.

However, motorbike injuries are of course normally far worse.

Without the protection of metal and high-tech crumple zones that most modern cars offer today, a rider who is knocked off their motorcycle is likely to end up with much more than just a whiplash injury. If the collision is hard enough, we’re talking broken bones or serious soft tissue damage if the rider is thrown through the air.

So how much could you be entitled to claim for if you are an innocent motorcyclist who has been knocked off their bike?

Well, as I said above, you’re likely to suffer from more than just a common whiplash injury, so sadly it’s very hard to tell you. The way the claim is valued on is based on the degree of pain, suffering, and loss of amenity. On top of that, your lost earnings, or medical expenses, or anything else you have to pay out for is added on as well.

Generally speaking, the more you suffer, the more we get for you.

Your claim amount is going to be entirely dependent on what injuries you suffer from, which of course could be anything when you are a rider injured in a motorcycle accident. I’ll try and give you some of the official guidelines and brackets for soft tissue and broken limb injuries that are common in motorcycle accident claims, if that helps:

  • Minor to moderate shoulder injuries range from around £3,000 – £9,000
  • Minor to moderate pelvic injuries range from £2,000 – £28,000
  • Minor to moderate arm injuries range up to £9,000
  • Minor hand and wrist injuries range up to £9,000
  • Straightforward leg fractures and very minor knee, ankle, and foot injuries range up to £10,000

This information is derived from the official guidelines that are used, with medical evidence, to value a claim for compensation.

What is classed as minor, moderate, or severe is entirely dependent on the medical evidence and (rather obviously) the seriousness of the injury. If this is a high speed collision involving multiple bodily fractures and severe soft tissue and muscular injuries, the above guidelines are probably not much help.

There is only one guaranteed way to make sure that you get the maximum amount of compensation. It’s no secret solution or hidden miracle – it all comes down to a choice you need to make.
