Dental treatment by Mr Desmond D'Mello at Daybrook dental practice

This is the first large-scale investigation of its kind in the UK, and health authorities admit that it is difficult to know the exact level of risk that people have been put at, and it is suggested that records of former patients are potentially in disarray.

What investigations have indicated is that Mr D'Mello has a blatant disregard for important infection control procedures - we're talking basic things here like reusing gloves and unsterilised equipment between patients, and not even washing his hands between patients!

Mr D'Mello was secretly filmed by a whistleblower committing the alleged offences as he saw up to 166 different patients.

The seriousness of contracting a blood virus like HIV or Hepatitis is of grave concern.

Whilst a dedicated helpline and Community Support Centre has been established, it's going to take a long time to reach out to patients, as well as test them for infection - meaning that the waiting for many victims could be weeks or even months.
