How much will I get for my whiplash compensation?

I must get asked this question at least everyday working here at The Injury Lawyers as it is an important aspect of making a whiplash claim – how much compensation am I likely to get? As we are expert personal injury lawyers, here is a quick guide to help explain valuing whiplash compensation:

Before I start it must be noted that not every claim will be the same. Each whiplash claim is different as people are affected in different ways.

It is often very difficult to determine how much compensation you are entitled to expect at the beginning of a claim.

In order to value how much compensation you deserve, you first must obtain medical evidence and only then can you get an accurate valuation. Obtaining medical evidence is simple and easy because we do all the work for you.

We will organise a medical appointment at a time and place that is convenient for you and all you have to do is attend. The medical evidence will comprise of a report which will outline the injuries you sustained as a result of the accident and state how long you are likely to suffer from these injuries.

With this information we are then able to value your claim.

As a rough guide whiplash claims on average settle for around £2,500. If you were suffering for around 1 month your claim is likely to be worth at least £1,000. A claim can be worth between £5,000 and £15,000 for a longer lasting injury and with an extremely serious whiplash claim, your compensation could be worth nearly £100,000 or more! As you can see it is important to obtain medical evidence in order to obtain the proper valuation so it is very difficult to provide a value at the beginning of a claim.

Along with compensation for your injuries you are entitled to claim back any out of pocket expenses that you have incurred that have directly arisen from the accident. This will also have an effect on the amount of compensation you will receive. It is often not until events unfold that you can truly value your claim.

Some examples of out of pocket expenses can include any loss of earnings, any medication that you have had to pay for, any damaged items resulting from the accident, any travel expenses you have incurred travelling to and from appointments. You can also claim for any care and assistance that you have been provided with as a result of the accident.

So as you can imagine each claim for compensation will be different depending on each individual. If you have been involved in a road traffic accident that was not your fault you are entitled by law to claim for compensation.
