23,000 cyclist accidents in London over last 5 years

Staggering figures from a BBC news report reveal that the number of cyclist accidents in London over the last 5 years is at an alarming high of 23,000. We represent cycle accident claim victims all the time so we know that they’re common and we know of the devastating affect that these accidents can have on the victims. But this figure of 23,000 is a shocking amount.

The figures from the report also confirm that there were 80 deaths in the same period, and there has already been four deaths in this year alone. This stands for just the London area – to quote Transport For London in the article that “any accident is one too many” just goes to show the gravity of these statistics.

Bicycle injury compensation advice for a pothole claim

We’ve done a few blogs in recent times about potholes that have sprung up a lot over the last few weeks due to the snow and colder weather. When water seeps in to cracks in the surface it can freeze and expand which breaks the roads open and causes these huge and dangerous potholes.

Hitting a pothole in a car is bad enough – but hitting it on a bicycle can be severe. So read on for advice.

Gloucestershire cyclist pothole compensation claim rejected

Pothole claims can be very hard to win – that’s why you need the best legal advice!

This story comes from the BBC and covers a cyclist who has made a claim for personal injury compensation having rode over a pothole and been injured as a result. Cyclists are one of the most vulnerable victims of pothole accidents, and the injuries the victim can end up with can be fairly serious.

The case here of the cyclist in the BBC news article is testament to this – he broke his collarbone and hit his head hard when he fell victim to a pothole. So why has this case been rejected by the council?

Advice for Bicycle injury compensation claims

As a cyclist, have you been injured in a road traffic accident that wasn’t your fault?

With reported cyclist deaths constantly in the news, it is becoming apparent that cyclists as road users are continually at risk of injury. It’s a frightening thought; and unless more care and attention is taken by cyclists and motorists, injury and death statistics are likely to rise; especially with more cyclists using the roads than ever before.

Pothole bike accidents – Injury Lawyers advice

Cycling is a great way of keeping fit, reducing our carbon footprint, and getting around at little to no cost whatsoever; something that’s key given the obscene prices of petrol nowadays. But one huge disadvantage is the lack of protection when it comes to an accident when riding a bike.

Hitting a pothole whilst riding a bicycle can result in some serious injuries. Hopefully you’re wearing a helmet to prevent or reduce any head trauma, but you’d be lucky not to break any bones if you go flying over the handlebars. Some potholes are very hard to spot and simply cannot be avoided.

When the road is at fault in a Bicycle claims

In a car, we can survive driving over a pothole or a defect in the road – don’t get me wrong, an accident could still occur, and the council may be liable; but on a motorbike or a bicycle, riding over a pothole or a defect in the road could be a whole different story.

The inspiration for this article comes from my own witness account of this happening just yesterday. A gentleman  on a bicycle, who was fully kitted out with a safety helmet, elbow and wrist guards, and a high visibility jacket, rode over a manhole cover where a section of the concrete just before the covers’ edge had somehow either eroded away or had been taken away; causing a sudden dip in the road surface. The gentleman was clearly an experienced rider, given the impressive looking cycle and the extent of his safety gear; but when you’re concentrating on the road ahead and traffic around you, it’s not easy to spot a hole in the road!
