According to Wikipedia: Plastic Surgery is a medical specialty concerned with the “correction” or restoration of form and function.

It is something that is always in the news; including very recently with Jackie Stallone speaking out about her regrets on having plastic surgery after suffering from her 3^rd heart attack. But Jackie is if course not the only one that has fallen foul to the scalpel; other famous figures such as Michael Jackson, Pamela Anderson and David Guest are all examples of what plastic surgery can do. In recent years however, it seems that plastic surgery is no longer just something that the rich and famous pay for with many people now undergoing the knife to achieve the look they have always desired;  For example, in 2010 a total of 38,274 cosmetic procedures were carried out in the UK, compared with 10,700 in 2003 (source).

However, unfortunately not all of these procedures go the way the patient thought it would when they paid for the procedure, with negligence unfortunately happening in some.

We are somewhat of an expert firm of injury lawyers when it comes to breast surgery. Cosmetic surgery used to be something that only the incredibly rich and famous could afford, with us all being  intrigued by the sudden change of appearance of famous figures such as (the most famous of them all) Michael Jackson. To you and me this is the surgical modification of the eyelid and can involve surgery on either the top lid, bottom lid or both. It is designed to turn back the clock on the area some consider to be the main one that “tells your age” – the eyes.

The procedure usually involves the removal of excess tissue, fat and skin which then requires removal or repositioning of the surrounding muscles. When done successfully, it can be life changing for those that have suffered with “ageing eyes” before their time or can simply give people their desired look. This review, commissioned by the department of health in the wake of the PIP breast implant scandal, has investigated in to how best to protect patients who chose to undergo cosmetic procedures, something that is incredibly popular in this day and age.

The Cosmetic Surgery industry is a very lucrative business and is forecast to be worth about £3.6bn by 2015. The overall feeling I get from this review is that the attitude to cosmetic surgery needs to, and is going to, have to change with several comments referencing that getting such invasive treatment appears to be as normal as buying “double glazing” or walking in to have your hair done at a hairdressers with Sir Bruce Keogh, NHS medical director for England, describing the situation as “bizarre”.
