Country Roads Putting Your Life at Risk

Have you ever questioned the reason why winding country roads welcome the national speed limit?

It’s as though they’re creating a play ground for young drivers, an open invitation to come along and test out their brand new ‘speed machines’.

What they don’t realise is that what often comes along with the national speed limit, especially on quiet country lanes, is a car full of teenagers looking for fun. However, this often ends in tragedy as some drivers misjudge the road.

No News is Bad News?

Have you ever been to hospital or your GP for tests and told “no news is good news”? The idea being that, if there is something wrong with the result, you will be informed and the correct action is taken. This is something we take for granted;  but should we?

A 3 year old girl, Miss R, was taken to A+E by her worried parents. She was examined and kept in overnight as it was noted that she had a high temperature. One of the junior doctors also sent a urine sample to check for infection. The next day, as the patient was much better she was discharged by the Consultant, with the diagnosis being “Likely Viral Illness”.

Unfortunately, the microbiology department had found that there was, in fact, a urinary infection. These results were phoned through to A+E, but never passed onto the Consultant. A day later a formal report arrived, and was signed by a junior doctor, but not acted on.

Road Accidents – Speeding

Road accidents are so very common – and in most cases, they are just that: accidents. All it takes is for a driver to lose their concentration for just a second, and an accident is caused. In most instances, there is no intention involved – just a case of negligence. But when drivers speed and an accident is caused – they are blatantly at fault.

According to sources from the Mirror, Liverpool football star Joe Cole faces a possible driving ban after being caught doing 105mph on a police speed gun! He did not attend the hearing at Staines Magistrates Court; he was instead represented by a barrister instructed by Nick “Mr. Loophole” Freemans firm, who have represented the rich and the famous in countless cases.

State of Britains Highways

Here at The Injury Lawyers we specialise in personal claims of all natures; road traffic accidents, slips in supermarkets and an increasingly common area; slips, trips and falls on our public highways.

I am sure that you have all had a moan at some point about the state of our local highways, the biggest bug bear being the number of pot holes which appear to continue to crop up in the middle of the roads and pavements.

Only this weekend I went with my friend to a nearby pub for some lunch and on turning in to the car park had to avoid what can only be referred to as an ‘assault course’  of pot holes. It was as though someone had been at the car park with a pneumatic drill and dug up the entire tarmac and then just left it for the customers to negotiate.

Acupuncture Gone Wrong

A 47 year old woman went to a clinic to have acupuncture treatment for back pain. The treatment involved the Acupuncturist inserting a number of needles in to the woman’s back. However, at some point during the treatment the Acupuncturist walked out of the room. However, to the woman’s surprise, the Acupuncturist failed to return, leaving the woman alone in the room, lying on the treatment table, with needles in her back whilst the practice had been closed and locked up. The woman had to call 911 after she had set the motion detectors off whilst trying to get out of the practice.

The woman somehow managed to remove the needles from her back. Luckily, the woman was taken home and did not sustain any injuries other than perhaps a fear of being left alone!

Bed Bug Bites

Bed Bugs, not just a myth that you’re mum uses to make sure you wash your bedding!

Sky News reports that New York, the city that never sleeps, is planning to increase their spending to stop the bedbugs biting. Shockingly complaints against bed bug bites have increased by 40% in the last three years!

The city has said that it will spend £320,500 informing the public how to kill off the torturous bed bugs and it finally put the issue to bed (so to speak).

DIY Tattoos

Tattoos are now more popular than ever; apparently one in three British adults have one. And that comes as no surprise considering how mainstream they have now become – even all the celebrities show them off!

Recently, tattooing has become so popular that people are attempting DIY tattoos at home! Trained tattoo artists say they are becoming increasingly worried about the number of people who request they cover up a “bodge job amateur attempt” at inking.

DIY kits can be purchased through internet sites for as little as £60.00!! (Which ironically is probably the going rate for a small sized tattoo by a professional tattooist these days!) It’s easy to see the attraction and why so many people are giving their artwork a go.

Man ‘Accidentaly’ Shot In Groin With Police Taser

A report has recently been released in the media about an incident in which a man was accidentally shot in the groin with a Taser by a Police Officer.

This painful incident occurred on Tuesday 13th July 2010 when 49 year old Peter Cox from Somerset was stopped by police whilst driving his BMW motor car on suspicion of driving without insurance, a suspicion which later proved to be unfounded. Mr. Cox saw the Police car approaching in his rear view mirror and promptly pulled over outside of his friend’s house. Upon exiting the vehicle he was immediately confronted by a Police officer pointing a Taser stun weapon at him and although the officer promptly lowered the weapon, it discharged as he did so and it hit Mr. Cox in the groin and ankle, shocking him with 50,000 volts in the process.

The Taser narrowly missed the man’s genitals, knocked Mr. Cox to the ground and he had to be treated by paramedics. Mr. Cox suffers from Guillain Barre Syndrome which attacks the nervous system but he said that the pain he experienced from the Taser was worse than anything he had experienced before. He said “as soon as it was done the officer came running up to me apologizing and said it was an accidental discharge. It was dreadful. The pain was unbelievable. It was the worst pain I’d ever felt.”

Road Traffic Accident Debate!

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – road accidents are so common; they happen all the time. And we at The Injury Lawyers are used to taking on huge amounts of claims on a daily basis, and helping those who have been the victims of legal expense scams, or had their claim captured by the third party insurers. And with road accidents being so common, there is a huge array of arguments about what sort of people are better drivers, and what the best way to drive is.

So, a little off the usual topic here; according to sources from The Mirror (source), one in three men are scared by their partners driving! It’s an age old debate- who are the better drivers? Men or women? It’s a two horse race, of which people’s side is usually dictated by their own sex!

The report goes on to say that the survey results indicate that many men find themselves pressing down on imaginary controls in the foot well in response to their partner braking too late. Some even grip the sides of their seats, with one in ten claiming they have had to grab the steering wheel to avoid an accident! Remarkable results…
