Failures at Furness Maternity Ward led to baby deaths

The government have released details of an investigation in to University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust where the deaths of mothers and babies have been attributed to failings at the maternity units.

The investigation found several serious failings, labelling the maternity ward at Furness General Hospital as “dysfunctional” in this latest damning report in to NHS quality of care.

Vaginal Mesh Implants ‘as dangerous as asbestos’ according to US lawyer

A news report from the BBC confirms that a US lawyer who has been working for the victims of the allegedly dangerous vaginal mesh claims says that they are ‘as dangerous as asbestos.’ The lawyer, named in the report as Adam Slater, gave evidence to Members of the Scottish Parliament in the midst of an ongoing inquiry in to the safety of the devices.

In the report, US lawyer Slater suggests a cover up where women are ‘not told the truth’ about the safety of the devices.

Victims of contaminated NHS blood scandal launch disability discrimination claim

You may recall the scandal where imported blood between 1970 and 1991 was found to have been contaminated, leaving thousands of people suffering from lifelong blood borne like HIV and Hepatitis C. According to a recent all party parliamentary report, it is thought that more than 30,000 may have been infected following NHS blood treatment.

Only 6,000 have been identified and the report confirms that over 1,500 were infected with HIV between 1978 and 1985. Now the BBC has reported that three victims have launched claims for disability discrimination for their payments for Hepatitis C.
