Dangerous manual handling on stairs – We can win your claim!

We are pleased to have settled a case for a client of ours who was told to perform a dangerous manual handling task that resulted in injuries being sustained in the workplace. She was asked to carry heavy gift items down a flight of stairs where she was unable to use any handrail due to the nature of the items being lifted, and was overloaded as well.

Luckily she escaped with minor bruising and cuts to her legs but it was enough to cause injury and distress which was entirely preventable.

When we hear ‘manual handling’ we often think of big, muscle-bound men loading vans as a bit of a stereotype. But in reality, manual handling can include any form of pulling, pushing, lifting and lowering objects in many workplace – so the chances are, whether or not you’ve noticed, you do it. Manual Handling Alone – The Risks of Injury!

Manual handling regulations in the UK are fairly tight. I see this as a good thing because it helps to stop injuries which can so easily be sustained if manual handling isn’t done in the right away.

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations primarily say that the need for manual handling should be avoided where necessary. Where it can’t, it needs to be done in the safest way possible. Manual handling alone can always pose a risk.
