Slipped on Wet Floor after being Mopped – Injury Lawyers Advice

slipping claimsA claim for personal injury compensation for a slipping accident can sometimes be difficult to win when it comes to spillages. The reason for this is that the duty, whether it’s against a supermarket or your employer, is that areas of the premises need to be routinely inspected to clear away hazards. So if you slip on a spillage and the other side can show they have taken all reasonable steps in inspecting the premises to prevent this from happening as much as they can, they can defend the claim.

HOWEVER – as the victim of slipping on a mopped wet floor, things can be very different. Mopping the floor means there is prior knowledge of the hazard to whoever has mopped the floor, and as such their prior knowledge means the employer of that person has prior knowledge by default. So they must take steps to make sure that no one is injured after a floor has been mopped.

Commonly this is done by deploying signs and cordons. But if this isn’t done, you may have a valid claim for personal injury compensation irrelevant of how good any inspection system they may or may not have is. So, normally you have a better chance at winning if steps aren’t taken to warn people of the hazard.

Perhaps one of the following has happened in your case:

  • There were no wet floor signs or cordons deployed at all.
  • A sign was not close enough to the hazard or not visible enough to warn people.
  • Cordons didn’t cover the entire area, or water has leaked beyond the perimeter of the cordoned off area.

If steps were taken to warn you of a hazard, the other side may be able to defend the claim.  But if you feel not enough was done, we may be able to help you to make the claim for the compensation you are owed for what has happened.

So whether you have slipped in a restaurant, supermarket, other public place, or at work because the floor has been mopped and you were not aware, you can claim for the injuries suffered and any losses (like lost earnings) or expenses as a result.

For slipping claims we can normally offer you a 100% compensation agreement so you won’t lose any of the money that you win if the claim is successful. Our No Win, No Fee agreement means you won’t have to pay our fees if the other side are able to successfully defend the claim.
