Cyclist Hit by a Car Claim – Injury Lawyers Advice

cyclist claimsHere at The Injury Lawyers we deal solely with personal injury claims. We aim to recover the compensation that you deserve. We have dealt with many claims on behalf of cyclists who have been injured following a collision with a car. Cyclists can be very vulnerable on the road, even when following the correct procedures and rules of the road.

Sometimes I think that cyclists are in a difficult situation.

First they are not supposed to cycle on the footpath as this would not be fair for pedestrians and could cause danger. Obviously children do often cycle on the footpath but when we are talking about cycling as a normal form of transport, cyclists are supposed to cycle on the road. Fortunately many roads do have designated cycle lanes and I believe this does make a significant difference.

However for every one road that does have a designated cycle lane there are multiple more roads that do not have a designated cycle lane. I have witnessed it myself; car drivers in general do not have much time for cyclists. Most car drivers appear to see cyclists as an inconvenience. They see cyclists as holding up traffic and getting in the way. However cyclists do have the right to use the road, just as much as anyone else. Then there are designated lanes for buses and cyclists etc. Many times we see other vehicles using these lanes when it is actually an offence to do so. Apparently the Police are clamping down on this but it is still a regular occurrence.

Cyclists should always wear high visibility clothing in addition to protective clothing such as a helmet and elbow/knee pads. The bike should also be as visible as possible with reflective lights for example. Many accidents occur as car drivers do not leave enough space for cyclists and changing lanes is another issue, as it is with motorbikes. If you are a cyclist and you have been involved in a collision which was not your fault, you may be entitled to recover compensation.

Cyclists (as with motorbike riders) are probably more vulnerable to sustaining serious injuries, as they are less protected if an accident does occur. We offer free initial advice so contact us about making a potential claim. Injuries could include broken bones, ligamentous damage, head injuries etc. Obviously this is where protective clothing comes in as if you are using proper protective clothing your injuries should be less severe, in comparison to if you were not wearing protective clothing.

For serious injury claims we may be able to offer you a 100% compensation agreement in an age when other law firms will deduct up to 25% from your payout. This could end up being thousands of pounds, do get in touch with us now!
