Road Traffic Accident Compensation Solicitors

Being involved in a road traffic accident is not a very nice experience. If you have sustained injury as a result of a road traffic accident which was not your fault then you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation.

Road traffic accidents can occur in many different circumstances.

I am not surprised by the number of road traffic accidents, just drive during the rush hour and you can see why there are so many accidents on Britain’s roads. Most days I see people driving while on a mobile phone, driving too fast or driving too close to the car in front. It is maddening when you see this kind of driving behaviour. It is easy to become annoyed and this can make the situation worse as you should be calm and attentive while driving.

Typical accidents include rear end shunts and accidents at roundabouts. Accidents can also be caused as a result of vehicles changing lanes. Road traffic accidents can of course be fatal. You can bring a claim whether you were the driver of a vehicle or a passenger. In fact if you were a passenger then it could be said that it is more straightforward as it is difficult to see how a passenger could ever be at fault for a road traffic accident.

The most common injury following a road traffic accident is a whiplash type injury. This is caused by the movement in the neck and back during impact. Such injuries, or claims for whiplash injuries, receive bad press but whiplash can be a very painful condition. Even if your injuries are relatively minor, if the accident was not your fault then you may be able to make a claim for compensation.

Road traffic accidents can also cause people to suffer with symptoms of travel anxiety as a driver and/or as a passenger. This is a psychological symptom. There is also the stress and inconvenience of sorting the accident out, whether that be through a claim for compensation or arrangements to repair vehicles etc. One way or another, an accident causes inconvenience.

In terms of whiplash type injuries, treatment in the form of physiotherapy can often help. The physiotherapist is likely to give you exercises to do at home as well which can help improve your symptoms.

As with any personal injury claim, medical evidence from an expert would be obtained. In terms of whiplash type injuries a suitable expert would be a General Practitioner (GP). The GP would arrange a consultation and following this he or she would prepare a report. The medical report can be disclosed to the other side and this forms the basis of the claim for compensation.
