Londoners are living in fear after reports of exploding pavements causing serious injuries are on the rise. In the latest report from the Daily Mail, a victim of an exploding pavement has spoken out and warned that ‘deaths will follow’ after he was thrown in to the air and left hospitalised with serious injuries.
This isn’t the first time this happened and nor is this the first time a victim has been badly hurt.
Weston Air Festival Accident – Parachutist Hits Spectator
Given our line of work as specialist personal injury lawyers (real lawyers – as in, we actually represent victims for claims and we are not a middleman referral agency) we see our fair share of strange accidents. But this next story from the BBC about a spectator who was hit by an out of control parachutist is one of the more peculiar I’ve seen.
Potholes in the News as £168 Million Released to Fund Repairs
As a motorist, potholes are one heck of a pain for me. They’re everywhere! I can’t seem to escape them wherever I drive. Whether I’m dodging them on the city streets or on the A38, I’m often worried about the damage that can be caused to my vehicle as I’ve hit one before and it cost me hundreds to repair the damage to the wheel and the tyre.
News reports today from the BBC confirm that £168m has been funded to local councils who applied for finances to help fix our roads by March 2015.
Free iPad and Cash Incentives for Claims Set to be Stopped
As a reputable firm of personal injury lawyers, we’re proud of the fact that we were never involved in the referral fee systems that were banned in April 2013 (that’s right – we have never paid referrals to claims agents, insurers, etc) and we’re equally as proud to not be a part of the incentive schemes a lot of lawyers offer.
By incentive schemes I’m talking about free technology and huge cash incentives here. But according to news reports, these are set to be banned soon.
28 Children taken to Hospital in County Durham School Bus Crash
We briefly mentioned the story yesterday about a collision involving two buses which happened at the junction of Shield Row Lane and the A693 in Stanley yesterday. New reports from the BBC have emerged that confirm that more than 50 children were involved with 28 of them being taken to hospital.
The head on collision that happened yesterday at around 08:22 involved two drivers and pupils from St Bede’s Catholic School, Lanchester, and Tanfield School.
Risk of Young Driver Accidents High, Research Suggests
According to sources from BBC News quoting statistics from the RAC, young drivers are more likely to be in a collision than any other road user group. The stats show that nearly 12% of accidents that leave victims dead or injured involve drivers between the ages of 17 – 19, yet they only make up for 1.5% of drivers on the road.
There have been calls to introduce new legislation that can restrict what new and young drivers can do to help reduce accidents on the road.
Derby Student Teacher Refused Payout for Pothole Damage
Interestingly this is the second news story I’ve seen recently where the media appear to be hitting out at the council for refusing to pay out for pothole claims. As an injury law firm, this is most unusual because we often find it’s the media hitting out at lawyers and victims for claiming against a local authority!
This story comes from our home county of Derbyshire, and tells the tale of a student left with a £210 bill for car damages that the council are refusing to pay. So let’s take a look at what’s happened.
‘Dazzling’ City Centre Pavement Leaves Pensioner Badly Injured
This unusual story comes from sources at The Daily Mirror and tells of the horrific facial and limb injuries a 74 year old lady suffered when she fell after slipping on a kerb she had difficulty seeing. The street in Lincolnshire has been revamped with colourful paving both on the road and the pathway, making the kerb allegedly difficult to spot.
North East Lincolnshire Council are now receiving calls to make the area safer and more than 50 people have been said to have signed an online petition.
Blackpool Hotel Dubbed a Literal ‘Death Trap’ Following Raid

But this story takes the biscuit…
Car Crashes into House – Family Lucky to Escape Injury

The family living inside were lucky to have escaped injury but were freed by fire crews along with the injured passenger in the vehicle, which was blocking the family’s escape route.
