Medical Negligence: Diagnosing Illness

When we feel ill or run down we visit our local GP, or depending on the seriousness of our illness, A&E. When we are looked over by our doctor we trust that they will be able to give us an initial diagnosis depending upon our symptoms. Hopefully, in most cases it wont be too serious and a prescription will be able to cure it.

In some unfortunate cases this is exactly what doctors have done. Patients have thenĀ returned on numerous visits still complaining of illness. In some cases, a patient visited their A&E centre 11 times before they were given a correct diagnosis of their illness. Unfortunately, in this case the patient was suffering from cancer and by the time medics diagnosed it, it was too late to cure the disease.

This is why it is important that medics are able to immediately diagnose a patient’s illness by looking at the initial symptoms, and if need be, carrying out further examinations. With some types of illnesses, medics are actually working against time to diagnose it, and the failure to do so can result in the illnesses becoming life threatening, or even fatal.

In most cases medics will do everything they can to ensure the care of their patients is of a high standard. However, there are few cases when they failed to provide the care that was needed, resulting in prolonged illness and suffering for the patient.

If you believe you have been subject to medical negligence and have suffered further injury due to this then you may be able to make anĀ injury compensation claim.

In the UK we are lucky to have such a sufficient medical service, however when they do make mistakes that cause us injury or suffering, they can be held to account.
