How do we calculate what a broken arm injury claim is worth?

Personal injury compensation is awarded to someone who has been involved in an accident that was not their fault. Those that have been injured due to someone else’s negligence can generally recover two things: general damages, and special damages.

General damages are to compensate for any pain, suffering, or loss amenity due to the injury. Special damages covers expenses and future losses that a person will incur directly because of the incident. This can include travel expenses, clothing, loss of earnings etc…

This financial settlement is meant to help those who have suffered an injury to get their life back on track, or as near as, before the injury happened. So how do we calculate a claim for a broken arm, for example?

Each person’s injury claim is different, so everyone’s compensation amounts are unique to them. However, depending on the injury, and not taking into account a loss of earnings or any other costs you have incurred, you can roughly determine how much compensation you could be entitled to for a broken arm injury alone.

Claims for a broken arm are valued using medical evidence from a suitably qualified expert. They can determine this based on the evidence you give, as well as using medical records, and an actual physical assessment.

The guideline amounts for a broken arm injury are as follows:

  • Simple Fractures of the Forearm: £4,750 to £13,700
  • An uncomplicated Colles’ fracture: In the region of £5,300

Remember these figures are for the injury alone, Special Damages (like what we talked about above) would also be added to these amounts. To find out more about how much you could be entitled to, you can use our Personal Injury Calculator for free!
