Royal Derby Hospital gynaecologist investigation – more women may be affected by alleged malpractice

care home negligence

In April 2020, an investigation into a gynaecologist at the Royal Derby Hospital reportedly found that at least eight women had been ‘unnecessarily harmed’ by the consultant. In the wake of further reviews over recent years, the Royal Derby Hospital gynaecologist investigation is now understood to involve some 382 patients who were said to have been under the care of Daniel Hay, which was another 110 women being contacted by the hospital in addition to those who had already been contacted.

Sadly, we are unsurprised to find that the list of potentially affected women has grown  as the investigation goes on, and there is no telling how many more women may be brought into the review of Daniel Hay’s patients. At The Injury Lawyers, we are here to help any women who might have been affected by harmful treatments, as we know how distressing such news must be.

Ongoing treatment reviews

Since the developments and the updates reported, the Royal Derby Hospital gynaecologist investigation has been looking into whether there are any further alleged victims of unnecessary harm. The hospital previously asserted that they are only making precautionary contact with previous patients of Daniel Hay to assure them that their treatment is being looked into, so being contacted does not mean negligence has occurred. However, as a number of women were found to have suffered harm after undergoing major surgical procedures, including a hysterectomy, it is understandable that many other women may be fearing for their own health.

Fortunately, it has at least been confirmed that Hay is no longer working for the trust, but his time at the hospital means he crossed paths with large numbers of patients. Cases will need to be looked into to make sure that no one has suffered as a result of any potentially negligent actions.
