Making a compensation claim for a Train Station accident

Personally I’m not a fan of trains. I can’t stand how busy and crowded they can get especially in the sweltering summer heat when you are forced to stand in between carriages without access to any air conditioning. But putting my disliking for trains aside for one moment, let’s talk about injuries at train stations because they can be a very common occurrence.

If you have had an accident at a train station and suffered injuries as a result, you are certainly not alone. Read on for legal advice about where you stand.

Slips, trips, falls, and doorway accidents

The common forms of accidents are slips, trips and falls, but being injured by a doorway is also a common occurrence. You may already be aware that most train stations do not have bins or only have access to a few, which is generally for security purposes where dangerous devices can be hidden. The result is that a lot of rubbish and other slippery articles can end up on the floor.

Not only that but many are not fully covered from the elements leaving them exposed to rainwater which can really make for a hazardously slippery surface. And with so many people rushing around and running for their next train, and large bags and carryalls on the floor, a train station can be a real recipe for disaster.

Where you legally stand

As with most public places there is a piece of legislation that will commonly be applied which is known as The Occupiers Liability Act. This puts a duty on those in charge of the train station to take all reasonable steps to prevent anyone being injured on the premises. This includes taking steps to prevent and resolve any hazard that may cause a person to slip, trip, or fall.

What we need to do when we pursue your claim is investigate with the opponent whether such steps had been taken, and whether they were reasonable. If we find that they have not taken all reasonable steps then we can win the case. As a specialist injury law firm (clue is in the name – THE Injury Lawyers) our promise for our clients is simple:
