Baby Orphaned After Road Traffic Accident

A tragic road traffic accident in Australia has led to a 13 day old baby being orphaned after both her parents were killed in the smash.

The accident happened on 19 September near Sydney Australia whilst the parents, 42 year old Justin Shcollbach and 33 year old Leah James, were travelling back to their home in Kurnell after visiting their 13 day old daughter Lucy Schollbach in Sydney’s Royal Hospital for women. They were just minutes away from reaching home after the hour long journey from the hospital.

The local police are currently investigating the accident however it is understood that the car veered off the road and hit a street lamp at high speed. Both parents died at the scene from their injuries.

The baby, Lucy Schollbach, was born 12 weeks early and weighed only two and a half pounds. It is understood that Mr Schollbach and Ms James made the trip twice a day to see Lucy who is currently spending most of her time in an incubator as she is not yet strong enough to go home.

Ms James’ former partner, Mr. Andrew Loxton, father of her 8 year old son, said Ms James was a loving and devoted mother. He said:

“Leah was always smiling like a Cheshire cat and was so happy to be visiting her little baby girl. I’d just like to see that smile again.”

Mr Schollbach’s father said: “Having Lucy changed Justin. It’s the happiest I have seen him in his whole life and now this has happened.”

The funeral is due to take place this week and it is understood that Baby Lucy is expected to remain in Sydney Royal until November. She is currently under the care of social services until it is decided who will raise her.
