Understanding what a whiplash injury is!

whiplash injury advice

There's a lot more to whiplash than most people think! Our team here at The Injury Lawyers are whiplash injury experts.

A whiplash injury is normally sustained through a sudden jolt, and is most commonly associated with road traffic accidents. When the muscles in the neck, shoulders, and back are stretched beyond their normal range of movement, you can be left with pain and stiffness which are the most well known whiplash symptoms.

The pain and stiffness can radiate from the neck and the shoulders and all the way down to the back, and other areas of the body can also be affected in some cases too. A whiplash injury can cause soreness and feel like a burning sensation, as well as restrict your movement in the affected areas.

Other symptoms can include:

  • Headaches
  • Pins and needles sensations - most commonly in the arms
  • Sickness and nausea and a feeling of vertigo in some cases

For many people the symptoms of a whiplash injury don't appear straight away. It can take hours or even days for the symptoms to develop, and they will normally get worse before they get better. Sadly there isn't a great deal that can be done to 'heal' from a whiplash injury; most of the time the medical advice is to take pain killers and non-steroid anti-inflammatory medication, and perform gentle exercises to keep the muscles moving.

One fantastic way to speed up the recovery process is to undergo a course of physiotherapy. As an expert injury law firm we can fund this on a private basis and recover the costs at the end of the claim. If left untreated, a whiplash injury can become a lot more debilitating, and it can be a lot more complicated than most people think.

The force and speed of the collision do not necessarily have to be high to cause a whiplash injury. If the force of the impact was simply strong enough to move you from side to side or front to back, the muscles can become damaged. Different people can be affected in very different ways. That is how a whiplash injury can work.

If you have suffered from a whiplash injury, whether from a car accident or other cause, contact The Injury Lawyers for help and advice. We can obtain advice from a medical consultant to prove your injury and settle the claim for the highest amount possible.
