And we often see in the news, and take on ourselves, what some people might call <strong><em>high profile claims for compensation<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>So, here\u2019s one from sources from the BBC News about an extra on the new Transformers 3 film (which, on a separate note, I personally can\u2019t wait for \u2013 let\u2019s hope it\u2019s better than the second one!) who is suing the film company for a serious injury he sustained whilst working on the set (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/entertainment-arts-11485712\">http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/entertainment-arts-11485712<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the family of Gabriela Cedillo have filed a <strong><em>law suit against Paramount<\/em><\/strong> after a <strong><em>thick slab of metal became dislodged from a stunt car and struck the 24 year old actress in the head<\/em><\/strong>, leaving her \u00a0with <strong><em>permanent brain damage<\/em><\/strong>, partially <strong><em>paralysed<\/em><\/strong>, and unable to speak and her left eye stitched shut. \u00a0It\u2019s a truly devastating story that has left a young actress with life changing disabilities. The family\u2019s lawyer, Todd Smith, has reportedly said that the accident last month was &#8220;something that <strong><em>certainly should never have happened<\/em><\/strong>, something that we believe occurred as a <strong><em>result of carelessness<\/em><\/strong>&#8220;.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The article goes on to say that the court will now be assessing the evidence to decide whether there is a case to answer to. The report also mentions that extras usually sign \u201cliability waivers\u201d; but this is a <strong><em>serious case<\/em><\/strong> we have here &#8211; the Claimant has been left at a <strong><em>permanent disadvantage<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If the court agrees that Paramount have failed to maintain the duty of care they owe to the Claimant, they are <strong><em>liable to compensate her for her suffering and loss<\/em><\/strong>. The report suggests that the family will be looking to claim in excess of $50,000 (\u00a331,500 +) in damages as a result of the accident. Realistically, in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theinjurylawyers.co.uk\/100-percent-compensation-4u.php\">claim for compensation<\/a> where the victim has been left with a <strong><em>life altering injury and at a permanent disadvantage<\/em><\/strong>, they are looking at quite a significant payout.
