It&#8217;s a joint disease, specifically known as osteoarthritis of the knee. A bursitis (inflammation of small sacs of fluid) develops below or underneath the kneecap as a result of severe or prolonged pressure on the knee, wearing away at the cartilage. This causes the joint to degenerate.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"h3\">Who does Beat knee affect?<\/h2>\n<p>The injury is more commonly known as &#8216;<strong>Miner&#8217;s knee<\/strong>&#8216; so, as you might guess, it&#8217;s people who have spent years working in cramped conditions for long periods under inappropriate health and safety measures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Possible symptoms of Beat knee (according to the www.direct.gov.uk website) include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pain<\/li>\n<li>Swelling<\/li>\n<li>Stiffness<\/li>\n<li>Reduced Mobility<\/li>\n<li>Inflammation<\/li>\n<li>Tenderness<\/li>\n<li>Locking of the knee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The pain is most likely to be a sharp ache or burning sensation.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"h3\">Beat knee compensation<\/h3>\n<p>Back in 2009 the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council added this injury to their list of prescribed diseases which come under Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit and former miners will be able to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theinjurylawyers.co.uk\/\">make a claim<\/a> if they worked for a period of over ten tears.
