\"\"According to the BBC, the man, 39, was attacked by the muggers in North Road, Westcilff on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

The assault included the victim being hit on the head and he had cash stolen after he was put to the ground. The man attempted to get up but he was again attacked with a knife.<\/p>\n

His left thumb was partially severed and needs specialist surgery, Police said.
\n<\/p>\n

The man, from Bengali, also suffered wounds to both his hands as he tried to protect himself.<\/p>\n

The attack appears to have been completely unprovoked and indeed PC Andy Coles said \u201cThe man was minding his own business and making his way home when he was attacked.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police also want to hear from anyone who may have information regarding the attack, PC Coles stating,<\/p>\n

\u201cI would ask anyone who was in the North Road area at the time who may have seen the attack, or who may have seen the attack, or who may have seen four black men before or after, to contact police.\u201d<\/p>\n

When somebody has suffered injuries through an unprovoked attack it may be possible for them to make a claim for compensation<\/a> through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (or CICA).<\/p>\n
