A 47 year old woman went to a clinic to have acupuncture treatment for back pain. The treatment involved the Acupuncturist inserting a number of needles in to the woman’s back. However, at some point during the treatment the Acupuncturist walked out of the room. However, to the woman’s surprise, the Acupuncturist failed to return, leaving the woman alone in the room, lying on the treatment table, with needles in her back whilst the practice had been closed and locked up. The woman had to call 911 after she had set the motion detectors off whilst trying to get out of the practice.
The woman somehow managed to remove the needles from her back. Luckily, the woman was taken home and did not sustain any injuries other than perhaps a fear of being left alone!

Bed Bugs, not just a myth that you’re mum uses to make sure you wash your bedding!
Sky News reports that New York, the city that never sleeps, is planning to increase their spending to stop the bedbugs biting. Shockingly complaints against bed bug bites have increased by 40% in the last three years!
The city has said that it will spend £320,500 informing the public how to kill off the torturous bed bugs and it finally put the issue to bed (so to speak).

Road Traffic accidents are on the increase. Sky News reports that Man Utd’s midfielder Anderson was actually pulled out of his fabulous Audi R8, unconscious, just moments before the burning car exploded!
Amazingly the football star only had minor injuries after his near death crash experience on the rural roads of Geres in Portugal.
Anderson signed a £18million contract three years ago with the popular Man Utd Team. The Brazilian born player spent the night in Sardinha Biba night club before he left in his Audi worth an estimated £125,000.

I have to say that when I first read the news of this article on the Sky News Website I was actually appalled. Sky news reports that the government are slashing Road Accident expenses by 40%, so they may switch off thousands of speed cameras throughout England. Considering that the accident rates are constantly increasing due to drivers driving at speeds far too fast for the road, how is switching off these preventative measures going to help anyone!?
It has been estimated that 6,000 speed cameras across the UK cost motorists £100million in fines each year. So surely knowing this alone should stop them from turning the cameras off. Surely if there are this many felons now who are speeding, knowing that they are at risk of incurring 3 points and a minimum of a £60 fine, just imagine how many people are going to drive recklessly once the cameras are turned off. If people are already speeding knowing that there are these fines and cameras in place, what in the world is going to stop them from speeding if there is no punishment or fine in place at all!?

Sky News reports that workers that were on the Deepwater Horizon rig raised concerns about the safety of some of the equipment just weeks before the explosion which caused the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
A survey was done by Transocean reveals that the staff on the oil rig raised awareness with the employees and management that they were concerned that some of their equipment was unsafe and felt they needed this to be looked into. I bet the management are wishing they had taken more of an active approach to these statements made by their employers and maybe then this disaster, and the millions of pounds recovery, could have been avoided.
Even more shockingly to say, it is reported that a separate 112 page equipment assessment had not been fully inspected since the year 2000!! Guidelines state that this should be done every 3 to 5 years. This company failed to check this for over 10 years. This is appalling to hear considering how much damage this oil spill has done, not only to the wildlife and natural inhabitants of the Gulf of Mexico but also the millions of pounds it is costing to get this problem resolved.

There are dangers all around us and as long as we are aware of them, sometimes they can be avoided. The most common place where accidents are likely to occur is in the workplace. We all know that accidents happen from time to time but it is the duty of your employer to ensure that the hazards and accidents are kept to a minimum.
As reported on www.safeworkers.co.uk a THIRD of all accidents in the workplace, in the UK are as a result of someone slipping on something or falling over something. This often occurs when floors aren’t cleaned properly or spillages are not reported, or when obstacles are left on the floor unattended and unmarked.

A lot of people don’t want to call Solicitors as they feel their injuries perhaps aren’t significant or worth a lot of money, when in actual fact it’s likely they are!! Hundreds of people are missing out on thousands of pounds by putting up with their injuries and just simply accepting that “these things happen”. Well, these things shouldn’t happen and you certainly shouldn’t suffer as a result.
An amazing example of this is one woman from America took out a Law Suit against McDonalds after spilling her cup of coffee onto her lap and burning herself. She wanted McDonalds to pay for her medical bills too. When McDonalds offered her $800 she said that this was crazy considering how the coffee was “unreasonably dangerous”. Amazingly, a jury awarded her $2.9 MILLION dollars!!!!! This was appealed and a judged reduced this to $640,000. As a result of this law suit, McDonalds have reduced the temperature of their coffee sold to 60-70 degrees to ensure this is of a “safer temperature”.
I am in no way saying that this ladies injury isn’t significant but just think how much this lady was awarded for a simple spill of coffee. I have spoken to people who have suffered more extensive injuries but don’t feel they should call anyone as their not sure if a claim is there. It’s free to call most reputable Independent Law Firms to see if you are entitled to compensation, so what have you got to lose?

As we all know Social Networking Sites are one of the Internets most trafficked places in order to contact friends, family and to meet new people, but just how many people are aware of the dangers and incidents that these types of sites can and have caused?
As specialist Personal Injury Lawyers we deal with all kinds of Personal Injury claims. One type of claim we deal with is CICA claims, also known as Criminal Injury Compensation Association claims. These types of claims are for victims of assault, shootings, attacks and many other violent acts.
A lot of us don’t realise what kind of issues can be caused by Facebook. A recent story from the Independent reads; “A 16-year-old boy who fatally stabbed a former friend over a “loss of face” after they traded insults on Facebook was detained for at least 14 years today.” source

An accident at work can happen more frequently than many of us realise and people need to be aware of the dangers surrounding them.
Particularly employees who work for manufacturing companies with large machinery, as they are more susceptible to injury. A prime example of this is one gentleman who recently lost 4 of his fingers according to “The Claim Connection Website”.
The incident tells us that the gentleman in question was working with a colleague on some machinery which was used to cut plastic. The plastic became jammed in the machine and the gentleman thought his colleague had switched off the machine so he put his hand inside to free the piece of plastic and the guillotine cutter came down and severed four of his fingers.

Toyota has opened itself up to a lot of problems recently with the recall they had on some faulty manufacturing. The ‘Mail Online’ has said that around 270,000 of the petrol electric hybrids may have to be checked. Toyota hasn’t officially stated that they are having a recall but have admitted that the new models have a software problem that is affecting the brakes!
Toyota has already recalled 8 million of their vehicles over fears of faults with the accelerator and the brakes. Obviously, these are the two main components of a car in particular if the brakes don’t work then you’re definitely in trouble!
The first claim made by a driver was back in September. His Solicitor was representing him to win a case where his Toyota had run into a brick wall at 30mph because the brakes wouldn’t work!! Not surprisingly he suffered serious head injuries.
