So, you might have heard of friends/family who say “I had my claim settled at £1000.00 in a month” or something along these lines. The chances are that this is an early settlement offer they have accepted which we call a “pre med” offer, and although it seems like a quick and easy option, there are a number of risks when accepting pre meds which means it is not always a beneficial thing to do.
To explain what I mean by a “pre-med” – this is the term for an offer made without the use of expert medical evidence. I.e. “pre-medical”. Insurers tend to use these tactical offers at the outset of claims following an admission of liability to get claims settled as cheaply as possible, and off their desks as quickly as possible for them.
In the run up to Christmas, the amount of pre-medical offers we receive significantly increases as the insurers play on the needs of people to have more money over the Christmas period for presents and festivities. Pre med offers are generally around the region of £1000.00 – £2000.00. Without expert medical evidence, it is simply impossible to place an accurate valuation on your injuries.

Cosmetic surgery is on the rise, and that comes as no surprise given the media / social pressure on people and their appearances these days. In particular there is increasing pressure on celebrities to look their best at all times – God forbid them leaving the house without a face full of make-up and dressed in their scruffs – the ‘paps’ would have a field day!
I can certainly see the attraction of surgery, if I had the choice I’d look like Cheryl Cole … I mean, who wouldn’t?! But have the extremes people go to for that “perfect” look gone too far?
Take for example the new reality soap The Only Way is Essex; where cosmetic surgery is the norm as the majority of the female cast have had different work carried out including, nose jobs, teeth enhancements, breast enlargements, and more recently there is even talk of bum implants! Additionally a recent episode screened a botox party where the guests were encouraged to undertake the treatment. Since the show there was reportedly a huge increase in surgical enquiries; presumably individuals wanting to look like the celebrities they see on screen.

Tattoos are now more popular than ever; apparently one in three British adults have one. And that comes as no surprise considering how mainstream they have now become – even all the celebrities show them off!
Recently, tattooing has become so popular that people are attempting DIY tattoos at home! Trained tattoo artists say they are becoming increasingly worried about the number of people who request they cover up a “bodge job amateur attempt” at inking.
DIY kits can be purchased through internet sites for as little as £60.00!! (Which ironically is probably the going rate for a small sized tattoo by a professional tattooist these days!) It’s easy to see the attraction and why so many people are giving their artwork a go.
