Advice for former D’Mello patients who cannot get to the Arnold Health Centre

A number of former patients of disgraced Nottinghamshire dentist Mr Desmond D’Mello have moved away from the area. We’re looking at a recall of potentially 22,000 patients over a period of 32 years, so it’s natural that a number of them no longer live in the area.

We have taken on a number of cases for people no longer living in the Arnold area who cannot get to the Arnold Health Centre for testing – so here’s a little advice if this affects you.

The current NHS advice is not to see your GP, and visit the Arnold Health Centre which has been specifically set up to deal with advice and testing for former patients of D’Mello. However, we are advised by clients and NHS sources that for those who are no longer living in the area, you are able to visit your own GP for testing.

It wouldn’t be feasible or fair for anyone to have to travel hundreds of miles if they no longer live in the area.

One of our clients who was able to see his GP has already received his results. Presumably the turnaround has been quicker due to the volume of people who are visiting the Arnold Health Centre for testing.

With potentially tens of thousands of people to advise and test, the task that the NHS face in getting through such huge volumes of patients is a massive one. It’s going to take a long time we would imagine.

Many who have been tested are now waiting for their results. It’s a harrowing period of fear, stress, and worry as people anxiously await their results. Most have been advised of a two week turnaround period, but we expect that many may have to wait for longer given the sheer volume of those affected.
