Daybrook Dental scandal – have you suffered any illnesses or infections?

Having taken on such a huge volume of claims for former patients of disgraced dentist Mr Desmond D’Mello, we’re getting reports of problems that may potentially be related to the poor practices at Daybrook where he was found to have ignored important infection control procedures.

Our clients are reporting potentially related problems that we are now investigating as part of our claims – so if you are considering a claim and you want the experts to help you, speak to us now.

D’Mello, dubbed by media as the ‘Dirty Dentist’, was caught and filmed by a whistleblower ignoring the most basic of NHS Infection Protocols – using unsterilised equipment; reusing gloves; and even failing to wash his hands.

Whilst it’s not yet known whether anyone has caught a serious infection like HIV or Hepatitis, some of our clients are reporting potentially related problems as former patients at the Daybrook Practice.

A number of our patients have reported odd bouts of illnesses they’d regularly get after having appointments with D’Mello. Some have reported often painful treatments that they passed off as normal, and some have reported mouth ulcers forming within days of dental appointments.

They could be related to D’Mello’s ignorance of infection control procedures. If any unsterlised equipment was used then bacteria or germs could easily have been transferred. Cross contamination may have passed illnesses and ailments between patients. We’re going to be looking at the evidence and trends closely to identify whether this may be the case or not.

When it comes to the serious infections, Hepatitis B is of the greatest concern as it can be specifically transferred between people through unsterilised dental equipment. NHS guidelines state this. Patients with sensitive gums, which is a common thing, may have been infected due to bleeding on the gums during appointments.

Whilst the NHS are describing the risk of infection as low, former patients are waiting eagerly for results, and our specialist Daybrook Dental Team have serious concerns that patients may have been affected.

We’re all holding our breath – we hope that no one has been infected with anything, but the worry and anxiety being caused through having to wait for results is significant.

Anyone who wants to make a dental negligence claim is being urged to come forward now and contact us 0800 634 7575 for advice and representation.
